In a season which is all about managing the tyres, Paul di Resta successfully got his two stop strategy right to score 6th place in Bahrain.
Tyre degradation is particularly high in Bahrain thanks to higher track and air temperature, however, degradation on front and rear tyre is more or less equal.
Di Resta who made into Q3 decided not to do a flying lap and thus saved an extra set of tyres.
Di Resta's who started the race in 10th place on option tyres lost two places at the start of the race. He made his first stop on lap 14 after running as high as first. He slipped back to 12th place but carefully managed his tyres and got a clear track ahead as other drivers made their pitstop.
He then lost crucial time in traffic after he made his second stop for a fresh set of medium tyres on lap 33. After the rest of the field made their third pit stop, the Scott moved upto 5th place.
It was gonna be tough for di Resta to do a 24 lap stint on medium tyres and was vulnerable to three stoppers at the end. He lost his 5th place to Rosberg on lap 51 and nearly lost another place to Alonso. Di Resta said that he completely lost his tyres on turn 8 of the final lap as he saw his 5 second lead over Alonso decrease to less than second in last few laps.
Kobayashi was another driver chose to do a two stop strategy however failed to do it due to high tyre degradation forcing the Japanese driver to make his third pitstop on lap 50.
