Yesterday, we got the confirmation of Lotus being bought by Renault and today, a spokesman of the French brand has told GP Update.net that Pastor Maldonado and Jolyon Palmer will be the pair of drivers of the F1 team for 2016. We have to wait for the official statement from Renault, which we guess will be in February, when all the details of the team will be revealed.
Maldonado and Palmer were signed by Lotus under previous ownership, but a certain comment by Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn led to speculation regarding their driver line up. But the spokesperson has now confirmed that the team will honour its contracts.
"I confirm that Pastor and Jolyon will be racing for Renault in 2016," he commented.
Both Maldonado and Palmer are important financial support for the Enstone-based team. There were concerns about the continuity of the Venezuelan due to the recent government elections in the country but the 30 year old will stay in F1.
The main aim of the team is to go back to 2005 and 2006, when they took back-to-back constructors ' drivers' titles.
