In the latest edition of Paddock Press, we recap the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and look ahead to the place where the hills come alive with the sound of horsepower.
Azerbaijan GP Review
The race of the season for sure. A true race of attrition catching some of the best drivers out. Mistakes and reliability led to some shock points finishes for McLaren and Sauber.
The rotten luck for Verstappen continued as he onc emore failed to see the chequered flag after engine issues.
The major talking point though was Vettel and Hamilton's clash. The view we take is the 'brake check' was a racing incident and that Vettel's dangerous driving penalty was fair. Let us not forget if the headrest issue hadn't occurred Vettel would have been fifth with Hamilton winning.
Finally a major drive from Lance Stroll - a driver under intense criticism particularly from countryman Jacques Villeneuve - who took his maiden podium in F1 and Williams' first since 2015.
Looking Forward - Austria:
The Red Bull Ring is unlikely to be a good omen for the Red Bull team. Engine power deficits will once more hinder their ultimate pace, allowing Ferrari and Mercedes to escape up front.
Force India and Williams could cause a surprise with their low drag cars suiting the Austrian layout while Renault, Sauber and McLaren will likely be the Q1 exits this time around.
Finally the predictions:
Pole Position - Valtteri Bottas
Race Win - Lewis Hamilton
Podium - Hamilton, Bottas, Vettel
Driver of the Day - Sergio Perez
First Retirement - Carlos Sainz
