Ferrari today confirmed that they have signed a contract with Kimi Raikkonen for next two Formula 1 seasons. He will pair alongside double world champion Fernando Alonso making it the strongest line up on the 2014 grid.
Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali welcomed the return of Raikkonen to the team, who drove for them between 2007 and 2009. During this period, he won his maiden drivers championship and helped Ferrari win two constructors championships.
"I am pleased to welcome Kimi back to the Scuderia, the team with which he won his World Championship title. I sense he is very happy to be returning to Maranello and very determined to tackle the work that awaits him in the best way possible.” Domenicali told Ferrari's official website.
Kimi Raikkonen was equally excited about his return to the Prancing Horse.
“I am really happy to be returning to Maranello where I previously spent three fantastic and very successful years.I have so many memories of my time at Ferrari, memories which have stayed with me these past years, first and foremost, winning the World Championship title in 2007, which was really unforgettable. Raikkonen said.
Fernando Alonso welcomed Raikkonen to the team but deep inside he know's that his life won't be easy in next two seasons. He has always preferred to be the team's number one driver but now he will be paired with a driver who just won't accept the number two role.
“I’d like to welcome my new travelling companion(Raikkonen): together, starting next year, we will have to tackle a very demanding technical and racing challenge.” Alonso expressed his feelings about having Raikkonen as his teammate.
