Mercedes technical chief Paddy Lowe has left the world champion squad with immediate effect, it has been announced.

Lowe has spearheaded Mercedes’ technical department in the V6 Hybrid era, having joined the Brackley-based outfit in 2013. Under his reign, the team romped to three successive titles between 2014-2016.

Following his exit, Lowe has been put on a gardening leave for an indefinite period. He is expected to re-join Williams in the near future in a bid to revive the famous British marquee.
"I have had a fantastically successful and enjoyable three and a half years at Mercedes working with an incredible team of people,’’ Lowe said.

"I am now looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone well at Mercedes."

Mercedes hasn’t immediately appointed a replacement for Lowe, saying “our technical organisation will continue to operate under the proven and established leadership of our senior directors Aldo Costa (Engineering Director), Mark Ellis (Performance Director), Rob Thomas (Chief Operating Officer) and Geoff Willis (Technology Director).”
