Kevin Magnussen has been handed a 20 seconds penalty for not leaving Alonso enough room while defending his position during the closing stages of the Belgian Grand Prix.
Magnussen was leading a trail of cars including Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and teammate Jenson Button when he pushed Alonso wide at turn five. His actions helped him to keep his track position over Spaniard. But now with the 20 seconds penalty, he slips to 12th place in the classified results and well out of points.
The Stewards also slapped the Danish driver with two penalty points to add to the two points he amassed at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Stewards official statement read: “The driver of car 20 was defending his position on the straight between turn 4 and 5, a significant portion of car 14 was alongside car 20. The driver of car 20 did not leave enough space for car 14 and forced the car off the track.”
The order from positions sixth to tenth is Button, Alonso, Perez, Kvyat, Hulkenberg.
