Mercedes dominated the opening practice session of the US Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton leading championship leader Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton, who won the last two races in Austin, lapped the Circuit of the Americas is 1m37.428s, three tenths clear of Rosberg.
Max Verstappen was two seconds off the pace in third, the Dutchman setting his fastest time on the slower medium compound.
Kimi Raikkonen was the lead Ferrari in fourth, while Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg finished fifth on a set of supersoft tyres.
Williams’ Valtteri Bottas was classified sixth after a late attempt, with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel finishing seventh and eighth.
Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz completed the top-10 for Toro Rosso. The former spun in the final 30 minutes, replicating Jolyon Palmer’s 180 from earlier in the session.
Neither of the McLarens featured in the top-10, with Jenson Button’s session coming to an early end due to a suspected problem.
Elsewhere, Jordan King finished 20th on his practice debut, having taken over Pascal Wehrlein’s seat at Manor. Alfonso Celis Jr was another test driver to make appearance during practice, the
