The day started with heavy fog that hampered the running, with the FIA going in with stricter safety norms these days, it was declared that session would be open when the the helicopters can be able to fly. The day started 30 mins behind schedule and 30 minutes was added to the end of the day's time. The ruckus didn't stop there as close to 8 Red Flags were shown through the ordeal of the day but it was Romain Grosjean who put the Lotus on top
Like most days of the pre season testing, the afternoon saw most teams going in for race simulation that included the pace-setter Romain Grosjean who did a complete race simulation in the afternoon before venturing out on to the track with just few minutes remaining for the day's end. Over the course of the day 123 laps were done by him showing the true strong performance of Lotus in the pre season testing
Jean-Eric Vergne finished as second fastest after the Toro Rosso team faced a major engine failure that put an end to much of their plans including a race simulation trial they had intended to do in the Afternoon, Vergne clocked in just 31 laps to name. He however was seen in the afternoon as the Team did some pit stop practice
Vettel finished the day third fastest but an most interesting event was that the Red Bull car halted at Turn 5 due to a problem with the car but Vettel admitted that he is looking forward to the upgrade package that the team was set to get on Saturday that will lift its game. Vettel notched up 85 laps through the day and was a tad faster then Alonso who managed to complete the first proper race simulation for the Ferrari and also completed 124 laps to his name which was most by any team in the day.
Heikki Kovalainen finished fifth fastest for Caterham with his best time being set on super soft tyres, but nevertheless the Team is showing a good improvement compared to last season. Caterham managed to clock in over 100 laps in the first two days of this test. Kobayashi finished the day sixth fastest with the Sauber suffering from hydraulic issues but still managed to do 77 laps and was ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India who car had serious driveline issues which meant that the Team was forced to sit-out over much of the day's action
Micheal Schumacher who had some serious offline activities in the morning finished the day with 79 laps to his name but said that he was happy with the day's activities as the Team finished much of their intended activities. Lewis Hamilton mean while had a low key day and he was ninth fastest but the team like Red Bull were more focused on the upgrades which will be attached to the car tonight. Williams rounded off the day's proceedings as both Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado finished 10th and 11th respectively and the Team confirmed that much of the day's running was for the pit stop practice although Maldonado's morning session was affected with few issues, Bruno Senna's afternoon session was trouble free.
