It started off well, But it was a surprising trend in the end as 2011 cars sandwiched the 2012 cars as Micheal Schumacher in his 2011 Mercedes finished well ahead of Mark Webber who was driving his 2012 car. It was also an exciting day for few teams as they notched up more then 100 laps showing class of reliability and collecting data as they looked on to put more miles in their cars. Force India are leading the 2012 cars pack as they are one of the few teams to put over 200 laps in first two days of testing
Mercedes with an aim of giving more time for the new car and also looking to gather more data of Pirelli Tyres with a stable platform should be happy with the way how things are standing at the moment. Mark Webber who lost much of the track time yesterday, Should also be happy with the way how his program went in the second day as he did 97 laps. Daniel Ricciardo finished third with exact 100 laps to his name
Jules Bianchi made his debut with the Force India Team as he completed his program of understanding the car in the morning session before Paul returned to his seat in the afternoon. It should be noted that Jules Bianchi will be doing a lot of Friday Practice sessions and it was surprising to see the Team giving just a short program for the pre season test. Kimi Raikkonen followed Jules Bianchi in the Time sheets as he put up over 100 laps to his name. He was also involved in a couple of runs through the gravel slightly damaging his car. And ironically Paul di Resta finished behind the Lotus as he took over the car in the afternoon session
It was a worrying sign for the Ferrari Fans as Felipe Massa seemed to be doing yet another different program as the Team is trying hard to understand the car which seems to be a lot different then what they expected and Felipe admitting that there is a lot of work still to be done in understanding the car further. Mclaren were of a similar strategy as well as Jenson Button like Massa was also nearly two seconds off the pace setter
Sergio Perez had a good run with his Sauber and he was faster then what Kobayashi had set yesterday, Perez will continue to drive on Thursday before handing over to his Teammate. Williams finished a solid day running after facing a few issues during their initial shakedown of the car. Caterham ran the KERS for the first time and Heikki Kovalainen completed a long run of 139 laps showing nice reliability of the Caterham which they always seem to complain as Pedro de la Rosa and HRT will be looking forward to their 2012 car as they finished last on the time-sheets
Interesting trend going on, The focus will now be on Mercedes and despite Schumi's attempts to shrug off the question of winning the title in 2012. More people will be glued to Mercedes Team at least for now.
