With all the Teams being aware of the impending rain, It was a case of rush hour as the Teams focused on getting maximum mileage under the dry conditions and also eventually setting a timed lap. At the end of this chaos, It was Jenson Button who managed to hold on to his position at the top as the session was hit by couple of rain spells
Romain Grosjean finished second while an inspired Massa finished the session ahead of his teammate in third place. The new hero Pastor Maldonado was fifth with over a second off the pace of Button while the defending champion Vettel was more the 1.5 seconds off the pace of Button and finished at 10th, while Button's teammate Lewis Hamilton was at 11th with more then 1.6 seconds separating the duo
Two spells of showers hit the track, With the first light shower managed to cause a sense of calmness at the track and once it stopped, some teams managed to venture out again onto the track, But the conditions weren't good enough for slicks nor wets, Only after the second shower, the Teams decided to venture out onto the track to gain some data for the weekend. Some unlucky drivers ventured out off the racing area with the list included Bruno Senna, Maldonado, Kovalainen, Massa and Perez.
It has to be noted that showers are focused for the weekend which will only add more spiciness to the already exciting start to this 2012 Formula 1 season.
