Kimi Raikkonen reckons the 2016 Ferrari has ‘a lot of potential’ which the team can tap in a bid to break Mercedes’ hegemony in Formula 1.
Ferrari arrive in 2016 with a clear target to win the championship, with company president Sergio Marchionne saying a 10-year title drought will be a ‘tragedy’ for the team.
Having tested the SF16-H for two consecutive days in Barcelona, Raikkonen is confident that the Prancing Horse has a strong package that can be developed further throughout the season.
,"To get the first feeling of the car and I am sure that there is a lot of potential,’’ Raikkonen said.
"It feels better than last year’s package, and that was the aim. It is very early days, and we have not done a lot of set-up work with it. For sure we can improve it, so we are just doing the normal work."
The Finn, however, said he wasn’t concerned about Mercedes’ seemingly bulletproof reliability during the opening test, despite his own running being limited by technical gremlins.
"Why should I be worried? It is something that some other people do, and we do our own stuff. Obviously we would like to have done more laps; it was almost one day out of two.
"But it is a part of testing and we are getting ready to go racing, if there are some issues of some things to change or try, we will to it. It is up to us to make sure we are in the right position when we start racing,'' he said.
