McLaren is one of the most successful teams in the history of Grand Prix racing with eight constructor titles and twelve drivers title. However, the team has faded to some extent in the last few years, having not lifted a championship trophy since 2008. A renewal of ties with Honda provides some hope for the Woking outfit.
Started the season on a strong note before losing their way in the latter part of the year, eventually finishing second in the standings. Hamilton and reigning world champion Jenson Button (lured from Brawn GP) scored five victories in total and stayed in the title hunt till the season finale in Abu Dhabi
The engineers at Woking improved a midfield car to a multiple race winning machine by mid point of the season with Lewis Hamilton emerging victorious at the Hungary and Singapore rounds. Team finished third in the standings, a point ahead of arch rivals Ferrari who themselves had an average year.
A disastrous season for McLaren wherein the team was stripped off all constructors points after being found guilty of possessing confidential Ferrari data. An intense rivalry between debutant Lewis Hamilton and defending double world champion Fernando Alonso broke the team apart and the latter returned at Renault after just one year at McLaren
